5 Reasons Why Hiring a Personal Trainer Is Worth the Money.
If you've ever tried to stick with exercise in the long haul, you already know it's hard. Adopting an exercise program often means changing large areas of your body and life. Your mindset, your courage, and your schedule all have to flex and bend along with your body.
Plus, letting yourself stumble toward success with new movements might feel awkward or frustrating at first; beginner’s brain is tough sometimes.
Finally, if you have a physical challenge, chronic condition, or new diagnosis, you sure don’t want to make anything worse when you exercise.

Launching an exercise program on your own is a big ask. What exercises do you choose? How do you execute them safely? How do you not hurt yourself? How do you know how much weight to lift, or which order to do your exercises in?
Let’s dive in with 5 reasons to get the help you need with an experienced and qualified trainer.
1. Safety

Hiring a trainer is your safest option for creating a sustainable, enjoyable movement program.
When you know what to do and how to do it so that you don't hurt yourself, your confidence will be your own motivation. Plus, when you have purpose and a plan, you can also relax and enjoy the process. We humans gravitate toward fun. When you like and look forward to an activity, you’ll do it reliably.
How many sessions will I need?
Every client is different. You may need just a few sessions to build your confidence and know-how. Most of our clients at BFL train with us for years because of the results they get and the relationships they create in our studio. They always know they’re safe with our guidance.
Learn the basics and stay (safely) fit for life
When you start training, you’ll likely practice 4 basic exercises quickly:
Squats, (with plenty of options in case you have tweaky or tricky knees, hips, feet, or ankles)
Hip hinges (a functional movement we all use to pick up items, reach to the floor, or lean down to pet our cat.)
Pushes (think placing your hands on the tub sides to get up from your weekly relaxation soak),
Pulls (like grabbing items from a top shelf, or retrieving your suitcase from the baggage claim carousel.)

These are also the 4 movements we use to help you build real strength by loading them up with external weights or elastic resistance to build your strength in real time.
What’s the magic formula?
Within the Basic 4 movements, we have to know your goals to make sure we help you get where you want to go.
Want to build strength? You'll need to lift heavier weights that produce muscle fatigue in reasonable doses. Plus, you’ll need to schedule the right amount of rest between workouts, making sure you don’t overwork one body region in a single week.
Want balance, coordination, and endurance? You’ll do larger rep quantities in a set, and you’ll work on more dynamic movement flows that help you move confidently and smoothly from one position to another.
Form is everything
We all have unique bodies, so the way that you perform a squat may differ slightly from the person next door. Having a trainer evaluate your form in a focused and customized setting helps you make sure you're executing each exercise for maximal effect.
Your trainer can help you work around current challenges like osteoporosis, inflammation, old or new injury, and even chronic conditions like diabetes and arthritis.
2. Persistence

Exercise is a journey of behavior change, and behavior change is hard. Having a trainer appointment that you can rely on helps you stay persistent with your goals.
Of course, life always gets in the way. You don't have to have perfect adherence to a training schedule to make progress. But many of our clients work out with us because they simply won't do it by themselves.
An appointment is what helps them stick to their goals, enjoy themselves in a welcoming community, and get out of the house, off of the screen, and feeling great in their skin.
When a new thing feels normal, it’s often sustainable. (Seriously, we bet you barely think about brushing your teeth at all, but you do it every day.) Especially when you begin, you need all the help you can get to help exercise feel “normal” in your body.
3. Novelty

Our trainers have broad experience and knowledge of a wide variety of movements that help you keep your workouts engaging, interesting, entertaining, and fun. If you don't like what you're doing, especially with exercise, you won't continue to do it.
Also, your body needs movement novelty to keep making strength, balance, and flexibility gains.
The program that worked well for you for six weeks becomes a little "meh," a little "blah" when you keep doing the same thing. It's crucial to give your body variety and to train in a number of different movement flows to keep getting the returns that you want.
Your trainer can help you do that quickly, efficiently, and enjoyably.
4. Education

When you know more about your body, you're more connected with it. When you’re connected to your body, you value it more. When you value your body, you spend time and effort on its care and maintenance.
So many of us live in our heads 24/7. We're either on our screens or handling tasks that are several moments, days, weeks, or months ahead of us in the future. We rarely slow down long enough to actually be in our bodies, and to listen to the messages we receive from our tight shoulders, sore lower spine, or worn-out feet.
A trainer can help you find the present moment with yourself—a place where you can learn about your own system.
When you have greater knowledge about how you function and how your physical body performs, you're more invested in the process of your workouts. You understand the changes happening within you, all the way down to how your cells are responding to exercise.
Pretty soon, you miss your workouts if you don’t get them in each week. You know something in your body feels “off” when you don’t exercise. Movement becomes its own reward, and your trainer is there for all of it.
Movement is more than movement
It's not just your muscles that improve when you strength train; your whole body perks up when you move it around regularly.
Of course, we know this. How many news bites say it every week? But knowing the facts in your head is completely different than feeling them in your body.
When you exercise with the right trainer for you, you start to feel how the neurotransmitters in your brain work—like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins. Those chemicals exist to make you feel lighter, happier, and more confident.
All of your systems benefit from exercise, from your tendons to your intestines. Every organ works better when you move your body. Check the science on this one. It’s compelling.
When you work with a BFL trainer, count on becoming more confident and competent with movement as you feel stronger inside and outside.
5. Someone Who Cares

Your trainer cares about your progress and about you as a person. “Relational” movement works in favor of motivation. When you know somebody is genuinely happy to see you and work with you, it makes the process of change easier to maintain.
Sometimes it's paramount to borrow somebody else's motivation and confidence for a little while until you can internalize it for yourself.
Yep, we want to know about your life
The BFL studio is a safe and comfortable place to talk about what’s happening in your life. When we know a bit about you, it’s much easier to create the movements that help you the most.
We love hearing about your kids and grandkids, the new haircut you're getting this week, or the doctor's appointment coming up that will tell you how your exercise is paying off.
That bone density scan scheduled for April? We can adapt your workouts to help you build your bone bank to its full capacity.
The trip you’re taking next spring to Europe with all the cobblestone streets? We’ll help you walk with balance and certainty, so you can browse, eat, shop, and sight-see without missing a moment.
Personal training is personal–and we’re here for it
We want you to succeed. The work we do with our clients is as fulfilling and satisfying to us as it is to you.
We enjoy making a difference in people's lives. We enjoy being present for people in movement whether they're happy, sad, stressed, or anxious.
Strengthening humans is our business, and helping you move your body through everything that life throws at you is why we come to work every day.
What gets us going is the connection we have with you, and helping you feel like a champion who tries and succeeds at new challenges.
We love helping you stop underestimating your own strength and ability. Our clients live lives of adventure, independence, strength, and satisfaction, right alongside their inevitable hiccups on the journey.
Movement consistency through all life’s transitions
Your process will be imperfect. Success is never a straight line up and to the right.
If you lose a loved one, your grief will affect your workouts. If you change jobs, your stress will impact your energy. When you’re sick, it’ll take you a minute to get back to full power.
Having a trainer support you through those life transitions is the key to staying consistent with your fitness and your desire to have the strongest and most able body available to you.
The great news? Movement feeds itself. When you move more, you want to move more, just because it feels good and you know it’s helping you. The results you get, no matter how small, feed your momentum.
That's the whole point of having a trainer: having somebody in your corner to help you move your body through everything that life throws at you.
We're here for all of it at Balance for Life Fitness. Connect with Julie, our owner, she’ll help you match with the right trainer and get started this week.
