Aurora H

Certified Pilates Instructor

Aurora has been teaching Pilates since 2008 and has been practicing it for over 20 years. She was fully certified in 2009 by Core Dynamics and in 2011 by the Pilates Method Alliance. She is constantly developing her practice and expanding her scope.

When she was ten years old she was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine).  It started hindering her enjoyment of physical activities and had gotten much worse over time, so at age fourteen she elected to undergo spinal surgery. It was a 12 hour process in which they put in two titanium rods on both sides of her spine that are held in place by 14 pins. They also reconstructed four of her ribs to improve the "rib hump" that had developed.  The surgery was a success.  During rehabilitation Aurora contacted Michele Larsson, one of the Pilates Master Teachers who also has scoliosis. Through consistent Pilates training and with Michele's invaluable guidance, Aurora was able to safely regain strength and maintain mobility.

In 2007, after graduating from the University of Hawaii, Aurora moved back to her hometown, Santa Fe, New Mexico and began Michele Larsson’s Core Dynamics Pilates Teacher Training program. Aurora earned her certification and trained under Michele over several years.  Among many effective teaching techniques, Aurora learned how to modify and adapt the Pilates Method to meet the needs of those who have serious ailments.

In 2010 Aurora moved to Vancouver, British Columbia and taught Pilates group classes for two years. “It’s a wonderful challenge to individualize the work in group settings. “ Although her passion really is one-on-one sessions because there is more progress and much quicker. Inevitably Aurora got an opportunity to work in a chiropractic and physical therapy clinic where she was for 5 years further developing her rehabilitative approach.

Her favorite part of teaching is that it is so versatile. Whether it is someone who suffers from an injury or someone who is physically fit and looking to prevent injury, the Pilates Method satisfies a variety of needs.
